Ethical and organic brand skincare Terre Verdi has introduced new travel sizes of four of its products and created two new gift sets in time for Christmas.

The brand’s FranChouliPom Body Oil, Yoga&Sports Body Oil, Acqua di Rosa Balancing Mist and GoodOils Cleansing Oil are now all available in 30ml travel sizes.

Terre Verdi’s Organic Gift Set for Body contains FranChouliPom Body Oil and Yoga&Sports Body Oil (both 30ml), together with its versatile cold-pressed Marocco Argan Oil (50ml) which can be used on skin, nails and hair.

The Organic Gift Set for Face includes travel sizes of Terre Verdi GoodOils Cleansing Oil and AcquaDiRosa Balancing Mist, along with the FranChouliPom Facial Serum, suitable for dry or mature skin.

All Terre Verdi products are certified organic with Soil Association COSMOS, cruelty-free and vegan.

The set contains 10ml sizes of: Green Tea Body Lotion, a light and nourishing body moisturizer; Apricot Shampoo to repair and strengthen hair; Vanilla Shower Gel, containing olive oil to cleanse and freshen; and Olive Hand Soap for soft and supple skin.

The products contain fairly traded olive oil from Palestine, shea butter from Burkina Faso and coconut from Thailand.

Available in six shades, the PHB Pure Skin Organic Liquid Foundation +SPF30 is formulated to provide a natural looking, flawless finish, and incorporates argan oil to soften and anti-ageing and antioxidant sea buckthorn.

Also available in six shades, Botanical BB Cream +SPF15 uses skin-enhancing botanical extracts of rosehip, aloe vera and grape seed to nourish and protect skin.

The 100% Pure Organic Lipstick line is handmade using anti-ageing oils and rich organic butters for creamy, long-lasting colour. Shea butter and jojoba oil are included to moisturize lips and rosehip oil and vitamin E help retain collagen and repair dryness. Colours include Amber, Mulberry, Plum, Tea Rose, Cranberry and Grace.

The PHB All in One Natural Mascara is water resistant and smudge-proof and designed to last all day. It comes in Brown and Black and was the winner of the Best Mascara in the Green Parent Beauty Awards.

“At a young age I was made aware of the harmful ingredients you commonly find in cosmetics like petrochemicals, animal fats and cochineal (crushed insects),” explains PHB founder Rose Brown. “Many people don’t realize most products contain unethical ingredients that can irritate skin, have long term effects on our health and cause harm to the earth and animals. Irritating chemicals, harsh alcohols and animal derived ingredients aren’t hidden away and their use isn’t denied, it’s just accepted as normal.”

All products are certified Cruelty Free by BUAV and PETA, are 100% vegan, palm oil-free and Halal certified.

Fair Squared has launched its personal care products onto the UK market, complete with new recyclable packaging for 2016.

The fair trade, eco, vegan brand uses ingredients certified by Fair Trade Labelling Organization (FLO) and carries the NATRUE label.

All products are free from parabens, nano particles, mineral and palm oil. They aren’t tested on animals and are certified Halal, vegan, natural and organic.

The product range, which was unveiled at Natural & Organic Products Europe, includes a Kid’s Body Cream, Coconut Body Scrub, Green Tea Body Lotion, Rich Argan Facial Cream, Apricot Shave Balm, as well as a range of condoms, haircare products and shaving oils.

Mintel’s study of Global Beauty and Personal Care Trends to 2025 has highlighted the trend of ‘gastronomia’ which it says is driving consumer interest in natural ingredients as people are becoming more involved in creating their own beauty products.

Brands are reacting to consumer interest in pure and natural ingredients, says Mintel’s Charlotte Libby in a blog, and are appealing to those wanting to be more involved with the creation of products.

The analyst also found that product launches are increasingly blurring the boundaries between beauty and food: “When it comes to natural ingredients, the in the past few years beauty markets have seen the use of botanical oils, such as coconut oil, in beauty routines blossom, at the same time as their popularity in cooking and baking has increased. The gluten-free claim also began to gain traction in the skincare market in 2013.

“There has been a continued blurring of skincare and food boundaries, particularly with regard to ingredients and storage. As these trends become cemented in the food market, similar claims are emerging in beauty markets as two thirds of UK women agree diet is a significant factor in determining the appearance of skin.

“Just like ‘raw’ and ‘cold-pressed’ have become buzzwords in the health food markets, the clean eating food trend is influencing the beauty and personal care markets, and there is increasing interest in products containing fresh ingredients and limited preservatives, which therefore have a shorter shelf life.”

Another key trend is bathing products with detox and antioxidant properties, which have driven growth in the sector despite declines in the number of baths people take.

And while vitamin and mineral-fortified bodycare launches have increased over the past couple of years, claims such as vegan, gluten-free and no additives are now seeing particular growth, says Libby.

Green food ingredients like spirulina are moving into the beauty market and fermented foods are now a popular beauty ingredient in Asia. Mintel expects the latter to be a growing trend in the UK.

Libby concludes: “Whilst food-inspired fragrances and ingredients have long been reflected in beauty and personal care launches, in 2016 an increased focus on diet has seen beauty begin to take influence from vegan and gluten-free diets. Further innovation is also expected in algae and fermented product launches, particularly in skincare. Free-from innovations, as well as appealing to health conscious consumers, also hold opportunity to appeal to other beauty consumers, such as those seeking halal-friendly products.”

UK-based beauty brand PHB Ethical Beauty has announced the launch of its OneLove Foundation charity to help improve the lives of people and animals in the UK and around the world.

The company, which is dedicated to raising awareness about ethical issues that arise in the cosmetics industry such as the use of animal derived ingredients, animal cruelty, chemical ingredients and palm oil, already donates 20% of its net profits to other charities with a similar goal.

PHB’s range of organic, vegan and Halal cosmetics is handmade in the UK and certified cruelty-free.

Founded 25 years ago by Rose Brown, daughter of UB40 drummer and songwriter James Brown, the company’s aim is to change the way people think about their beauty product choices, and to eventually become a not-for-profit organization.

“We have created the OneLove Foundation based on the belief that it’s vital to share what we have, to give back, to help others and to care for the earth,” says Brown. “All people and creatures living on this earth are interrelated and dependent on each other.

“Through our OneLove Foundation PHB will fund projects to help people, especially children, and animals in the UK and around the world. We will also partner with established charities and projects to donate and raise awareness about their worthy causes.”

A new brand of baby skincare is being launched at Natural & Organic Products Europe (19-20 April) by Jeeva.

The Coco Cuddles range of gentle skincare is formulated for newborn babies and older babies with sensitive skin and comprises Baby Wash to gently cleanse and moisturize delicate skin and hair; Baby Lotion to calm and soothe sensitive skin; Baby Massage Oil to hydrate and protect; and Baby Nappy Balm to protect skin from nappy rash.

The company states that one out of three babies develops some kind of skin sensitivity in the first few months of life and so it is introducing the natural hypoallergenic formulas to protect babies’ skin before problems arise.

Coco Cuddles combines coconut water and organic raw cold-pressed coconut oil with soothing organic and natural ingredients including oatmeal, chamomile  and raspberry extract.

The products aim to soothe and protect babies’ skin against harmful substances or skin inflammation and act as a moisturizer to nourish and keep the skin hydrated.

Greenfrog Botanic is introducing the first two products from its new premium natural bodycare range onto the UK market on 1 March.

Said to be the first products of their type to be made and launched in the UK, the Greenfrog Organic Handwash and Bodywash are formulated based on organic soapberries which originate from the Himalayas and have been used for centuries to treat eczema and sensitive skin.

The products combine moisturizing aloe vera infused with calming and uplifting essential oils. The washes will be available in Soapberry, Aloe Vera, Peppermint & Geranium or Soapberry, Aloe Vera, Neroli & Lime varieties.

Vegan certified and vegetarian approval, the Greenfrog Botanic brand is cruelty-free and contains no palm oil, parabens or sulphates.

Founded by Sonya Driver as a solution to her search for a safe sunless tanning alternative following her sister being diagnosed with a melanoma, the organic brand’s initial creation was Winter Skin, Australia’s very first certified organic sunless tan product.

The range now consists of six tanning and bodycare products – including Invisible Tan, Deodorant and Body Wash as well as a Summer Skin Starter Pack.

The products are all certified vegan, cruelty- and toxic-free.
